What is overtime pay?

Overtime pay is extra money you earn when you work more than 40 hours in a workweek on W-2 shifts. Federal and state laws require businesses to pay hourly workers at premium rates for overtime hours.

When do I earn overtime?

- After working more than 40 hours in one workweek on W-2 shifts

- In some states, after working more than a set number of hours in one day

- The Instawork workweek starts Monday at 12:00 AM PT and ends Sunday at 11:59 PM PT

How much overtime pay you'll receive

- Usually, 1.5x your regular hourly rate (time and a half)

- Sometimes 2.0x your regular rate (double time) depending on state laws and hours worked

- Some states require extra pay for Sunday or holiday retail shifts

Important things to remember

- Only W-2 shifts count toward overtime hours

- Hours worked on 1099 shifts do not count for overtime

- W-2 Pros can see detailed pay information in their ADP account
