Required Certifications for Instawork Shifts

Some positions on Instawork require special certifications before you can book shifts. This article explains which certifications you might need and how to get them.

Why Certifications Matter

Certifications show that you have the training needed to safely handle food or alcohol. Having the right certifications:

  • Makes you eligible for more shifts

  • Helps you earn more money

  • Ensures you meet legal requirements

Common Required Certifications

Food Handler's Card

  • Required for any position where you prepare or handle food

  • Needed for positions like prep cook, line cook, and dishwasher

  • Usually costs $10-15 and can be completed online

Alcohol Service Certification

  • Required for positions where you serve or handle alcohol

  • Needed for bartenders, barbacks, and some server positions

  • Examples include TIPS, ServSafe Alcohol, and state-specific programs

  • Usually costs $15-40 and can be completed online

Payment for Certifications

As a Pro, you are responsible for:

  • Paying for all required certifications

  • Keeping your certifications current and up-to-date

  • Renewing certifications before they expire
