What is a geofence

When booking a shift, you’ll need to provide location details. In addition to address, Instawork provides you with a top-down map view that allows you to draw a virtual perimeter, or “geofence,” around the shift location.

Why is a geofence important?

Setting a geofence helps Instawork provide you with confidence that all workers are where you expect them to be, before, during, and after a shift. To make this work, Pros enable location tracking permission through the Instawork app and must be inside your shift’s geofence before they can clock in or out of a shift.

How do I make a geofence?

To make a geofence, you click on the map to make points that will create a perimeter around the building or area where your shift will be.

Make sure to provide extra cushion for the area where you set your geofence. For example, if you know your workers are going to be working on the sidewalk, you’ll want to extend the corners of your geofence into the road a bit.

Where do I add a geofence?

There are a few places you can add or modify a geofence:

1. In the booking form
When you’re booking a shift, you will be asked to set a geofence when adding location details. Click “Book Instawork Pros” on the top right-hand corner of the screen to start booking a shift. As you go through the steps, you’ll be prompted to add a geofence.

2. In your location settings

You can also add or edit a geofence in your location settings.

Account settings

On the dashboard homepage, click the three lines in the top right corner of the screen and select “Account setting.”

On the left side of the page, click “Locations.”

Find the location you want to edit the geofence for. Click the three dots and select “Edit.”

To set a geofence for a new location, select “Add a new location,” under the Account settings > Locations. You’ll be prompted to add all the location details there, including its geofence.
