How to Get Employment Verification Through Instawork

If you need to verify your employment with Instawork for a loan, apartment rental, or other purposes, this article explains how to request verification and what to expect.

What Is Employment Verification?

Employment verification is official confirmation of your work history with Instawork. You might need this when:

- Applying for a loan

- Renting an apartment

- Applying for government benefits

- Starting a new job

How to Request Employment Verification

Step 1: Provide required information

- Include:

- Your full legal name

- Your contact information (email and phone number as it appears on your profile)

- The purpose of verification (loan, housing, etc.)

- What information do you need verified

- Where to send the verification (company name, contact person, email)

We will send you a copy as well.

- When you need it by (allow at least 3-5 business days)

Step 2: Submit and wait for processing

- Tap "Submit Request"

- You'll receive a confirmation message that your request was received

- Our team will process your request within 3-5 business days

- When it’s ready, the verification will be sent directly to the company or person you specified

Important Things to Know

Eligibility Requirements

To receive employment verification, you must have:

- Worked at least one shift through Instawork

- Received payment for completed work

For W-2 Workers

If you work W-2 shifts through Instawork's affiliate, Advantage Workforce Services (AWS):

- Your verification will come from AWS

For 1099 Workers

If you work as an independent contractor (1099):- To document your earnings and shift history, use the Instawork app:

  • Open the Instawork app and go to the Earnings tab to view completed payments for your shifts.

  • Tap All Payments to see your complete earnings history.

  • From the home screen, open Past Shifts to see each completed shift with its associated payment details.

  • Use the Reports section to filter hours by partner and timeframe, if needed.

  • Review and screenshot completed shifts and payments as needed for income documentation.

  • Income verification will show earnings, not wages- The IRS Form 1099-NEC is an official document that reports your earnings as an independent contractor. Here’s how to use it:

    1. Access Your 1099 Form:

      • Retrieve your 1099 form from the tax document provider (e.g., tax1099.com) or via the email notification you received.

      • Save or print a copy for your records.

    2. Submit for Verification:

      • Use the 1099 form as proof of income for applications such as apartment leases or financial documentation.

      • Include additional supporting documents, such as bank statements, if requested.

    3. Ensure Accuracy:

      • Verify that your personal information and earnings are correct on the form before submission.

Accessing Earnings and Shift Details via the Instawork App

To document your earnings and shift history, use the Instawork app:

  1. Earnings Details:

    • Open the Instawork app and go to the Earnings tab.

    • View completed payments for your shifts.

    • Tap All Payments to see your complete earnings history.

  2. Shift History:

    • From the home screen, open Past Shifts to see each completed shift with its associated payment details.

    • Use the Reports section to filter hours by partner and timeframe, if needed.

Note: We do not issue letters stating you did not work during a specific period - If you need to prove you weren't working during a certain time, please use other documentation such as tax records.

  • Reporting Earnings: Earnings from shifts completed on Instawork may be reportable as income to your state’s unemployment office.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why don’t my 1099 earnings appear in ADP?

ADP only displays W-2 earnings and pay stubs. As a 1099 contractor, your earnings are not processed through ADP. Instead, you’ll receive a 1099-NEC form if you earn $600 or more in a year. Use this form for income documentation.

Can I get a consolidated monthly pay statement for 1099 shifts?

No, Instawork does not generate consolidated monthly statements for 1099 contractors. Use the Earnings tab in the app to view individual shift details or your annual 1099 form for formal income verification.

What if I need proof of income before receiving my 1099 form?

Before the 1099-NEC is issued, you can use the Instawork app to document your earnings and shift history. Screenshot the relevant details from the Earnings or Past Shifts sections.

How long does it take to get verification?

Standard processing time is 3-5 business days. For urgent requests, please note this in your request.

Is there a fee for employment verification?

No, Instawork provides employment verification at no cost to Pros.

Can I get verification of future shifts?

No, we can only verify shifts you've already completed and been paid for.

What if the company requesting verification has its own form?

We will send you a standard verification form that, in most cases, covers all the requested information.

Can I get verification if I haven't worked in several months?

Yes, as long as you've worked at least one shift through Instawork, we can verify your work history.
