How are Instawork Pros vetted?

Vetting workers

Are you a worker? Click to expand.

If you are a Pro, by reading past this section, you affirm that you do not reside in and are not seeking work in any of the following locations: New York State, Washington State, Washington, D.C., or Philadelphia.

Instawork thoroughly vets Pros through up to eight different methods, including a background check and phone screen, to make top-tier, reliable workers available through the Instawork Platform for your business.

Here are some ways we vet workers on our platform:

  • Background checks: Every Pro completes a multi-step background check before working a shift, which includes Social Security Number trace, review of criminal history, global watchlist screening, and sex offender registry review.

  • Phone interview: Instawork Coaches conduct one-on-one screening calls with Pros and use industry-specific knowledge to evaluate a new Pro’s work history to determine if it aligns with the requirements of a position. For example, if a worker is interested in picking up shifts as a bartender, the Instawork Coach might ask them how they would make and serve a Manhattan. Learn more about Coaches.

  • Continuous network validation: After each shift is completed, Partners and Pros are both asked to rate the Pros they worked with based on their skill, attitude, and work ethic. Pros who continue to earn good reviews unlock benefits on the Instawork platform, such as early shift access. Similarly, Pros who consistently receive poor reviews may lose the opportunity to pick up future shifts.

  • W-2 employee verification: Instawork’s affiliate, Advantage Workforce Services, LLC (“AWS”), connects businesses with its employees to work W-2 shifts through the Instawork Platform. AWS’s W-2 onboarding process requires candidates to submit a Form I-9 and supporting documents that are reviewed in person by an authorized representative of AWS to verify eligibility to work in the US.

W2 Pro Onboarding

Depending on the position type and shift details, Pros may need to complete additional screening, including:

  • Uploading relevant certifications: Pros upload images of their certifications, such as a Food Handlers card or TIPs certification, which are then reviewed and approved by Instawork’s Operations team.

  • Verifying work attire: Pros upload images of themselves wearing their required work attire, which is reviewed and approved by Instawork’s Operations team.

  • Proving specific skills via video demonstrations: Pros upload a video of themselves demonstrating a skill (e.g. mixing a drink or chopping an onion) which is reviewed and approved by Instawork’s Operations team.

  • Passing skill-specific quizzes: Pros complete quizzes covering the skills needed for each position.

Through this multi-layered vetting process, Instawork helps businesses connect with qualified, reliable workers who are ready to contribute to their success.
