W-2 FAQ: How to access and start booking

Here is everything you need to know about booking W-2 shifts with Instawork.

By becoming a W-2 employee of Instawork's affiliate, Advantage Workforce Services, LLC (“AWS”), you will have access to all of the 1099 shifts you are used to seeing on the Instawork app, PLUS additional shifts offered by some of our largest Partners!

To start booking these W-2 shifts within the app, the first thing you will need to do is complete paperwork–including reviewing and accepting an employment agreement and filling out a Form I-9–to onboard as an employee of AWS.

Once you have completed your paperwork, your Form I-9 will need to be reviewed by the person you identify in the app as AWS’s authorized representative. We’ll send them an email to remind them to review and verify your documents in person.

How do I start the onboarding?
Navigate to your Profile in the app. Scroll down to the bottom and tap on 'Get started' in the 'W-2 onboarding' section to begin the process.

What's different about W-2 shifts?

  • You will get access to hundreds of additional shifts from new and existing Partners who require the services of W-2 employees. MORE SHIFTS = MORE 💰💰

  • On W-2 shifts, you will receive net earnings after deductions and withholdings.

  • To access W-2 shifts, you’ll need to complete employee onboarding, which includes filling out a Form I-9 related to work authorization.


What do I need to complete these forms?
All you will need are the form(s) of identification identified on the Form I-9. Use this guide to make sure you provide the proper form(s) of identification needed and list the correct issuing authority.

Who can I use as an authorized representative?
You may designate any non-family member over the age of 18 as AWS's authorized representative to review and verify your documents in person. The authorized representative will be required to review and verify your documents in person. They will receive an email with a link to confirm once they completed their review.

How will I know if the forms are completed?
Once you have completed the forms, you will see "Your documents have been submitted" in which we're waiting for your authorized representative to verify your documents. 


How much will I be paid for these shifts?
Just like all other shifts, you will see the you will see the hourly rate for W-2 shifts listed in the app. Please note that on W-2 shifts, taxes will be deducted from your total (gross) earnings, reducing the net amount you receive in your account. You will be able to see the amount deposited to your account in the Earnings tab.

When will I be paid for W-2 shifts?
Payments for W-2 shifts are processed once a week on Tuesdays. The amount should be available in your account by Friday. Please review this FAQ for more information on how to get paid.

When can I access my paystubs for W-2 shifts?
AWS partners with third-party payroll provider, ADP, to provide paystubs each weekly pay period in which you work a shift. Physical copies are sent to your address on the I-9 but you are also able to view the digital copies on ADP here.
