What do I get by completing the W-2 paperwork?
By completing the W-2 paperwork and becoming a W-2 employee of Instawork's affiliate, Advantage Workforce Services, LLC (“AWS”), you will have access to all of the 1099 shifts you are used to seeing on the Instawork app, PLUS additional shifts offered by some of our largest Partners!
What's different about W-2 shifts?
You will get access to hundreds of additional shifts from new and existing Partners who require the services of W-2 employees. MORE SHIFTS = MORE 💰💰
On W-2 shifts, you will receive net earnings after deductions and withholdings.
To access W-2 shifts, you’ll need to complete employee onboarding, which includes filling out a Form I-9 related to work authorization.
How do I get started?
There are two places in the Pro app where you can start the W-2 paperwork:
Shifts>Open shifts (Scroll to the bottom of the page)
Profile (Scroll to the bottom of the page)

What are the steps of the W-2 process?
There are three steps:
Complete identity verification
Confirm your profile information
Submit required forms and complete authorized representative process
In the W-2 paperwork process, you will be asked to take and upload photos of the original copies of government ID. Please make sure that you have the documents on hand before you begin the verification process.
As the last step of the W-2 paperwork process, your Form I-9 will need to be reviewed by someone that you pick in the app as the authorized representative of AWS.
Here is an article about the authorized representative process.
What do I need to complete the Form I-9?
You will need documents to establish both identity and employment authorization. Please follow instructions in the Pro app. You can also use this guide to make sure that you have the proper documents handy.
What does “Pending Admin review” mean?
Only a portion of Pros will go through the “Pending Admin review” process.
The “Pending Admin review” process means AWS is reviewing the documentation you provided in the Form I-9. Once the review is completed, we will ask you to begin the “Section 2 Authorized Representative review and verification process.”
We recommend that you take photos of the original copies of your document.
This is what the Pro app looks like when Form I-9 is “Pending Admin review”.
How long does “Admin review” take to complete?
We’ve recently received an unprecedented number of applications, impacting our review timeline. We know you’re eager to access W-2 shifts, and we apologize for the delay. Rest assured your paperwork will be reviewed as quickly as possible.
At this time, we expect to complete our review within the next 7-10 days.
Is the “Pending Admin review” process the same as the “authorized representative” process?
It is NOT the same.
“Pending Admin review” is when AWS reviews your documents.
“Authorized representative process” is when someone that YOU pick reviews your document.
The “authorized representative process” comes after the “Pending Admin review” process is completed.
Please note that only a portion of Pros will go through the “Pending Admin review” process.
How do I know that I can begin the “authorized representative” process?
This is what the Pro app looks like when you are ready to begin the “authorized representative” process.
What is an authorized representative?
The authorized representative is a person YOU pick. The basic requirements for this person you are picking are:
At least 18 years old
Have a smartphone connected to the internet
Able to meet with you in person to review your documents (such as government issued IDs, passports, etc.) and the information on the Form I-9.

How much will I be paid for these shifts?
Just like all other shifts, you will see the hourly rate for W-2 shifts listed in the app. Please note that on W-2 shifts, taxes will be deducted from your total (gross) earnings, reducing the net amount you receive in your account. You will be able to see the amount deposited to your account in the Earnings tab.
When will I be paid for W-2 shifts?
Payments for W-2 shifts are processed once a week on Tuesdays. The amount should be available in your account by Friday. AWS offers a program called W-2 Instapay that helps you get paid a portion of your earnings more quickly.
Note: W-2 Instapay is not currently available in CA, CO, and CT.
When can I access my paystubs for W-2 shifts?
You can view digital copies of your weekly paystubs on ADP. Weekly paystubs are available on the Wednesday immediately after the last pay period (Monday to Sunday).
