Why does my location tracking need to be on?

Updated this week

Location tracking is an important part of working shifts through Instawork. This article explains how we use your location data and how to ensure your tracking is properly set up. Learn how to turn on location tracking here.

Why location tracking is important

Your location data during a shift helps us:

  • Verify your working hours to ensure accurate payment

  • Process payments faster, especially for extra time worked

  • Expedite any hours dispute resolution

  • Confirm you're at the correct work location

Having location tracking enabled for the entire duration of your shift is essential for:

  • Accurate recording of hours worked

  • Accurate and timely processing of your payment

  • Eligibility for Instapay

  • Maintaining good standing on your account

If your tracking is not enabled during a shift, you may experience:

  • Delays in payment processing

  • Ineligibility for Instapay

  • Potential adverse effects on your account status, like suspensions and limited shift access.

When does Instawork track your location?

We only track your location in connection with your shifts:

  • Tracking begins 90 minutes before your shift starts to calculate your ETA

  • Tracking continues throughout your shift

  • Tracking stops as soon as you clock out

  • We do not track your location at any other time

Rest assured that Instawork only tracks your location just prior to and during your shifts.

Why should location tracking be set to "Always Allow?"

We request "Always Allow" location access to:

  • Verify all hours worked

  • Resolve discrepancies between Pros and Partners

  • Pay you accurately and quickly

Note: Even with "Always Allow," we only track your location in connection with your shifts.
