How to get approved for skilled positions on Instawork

Instawork offers both entry-level and skilled positions. While entry-level positions (like general labor) are typically approved automatically, skilled positions require a more thorough application process. This article explains how to submit a strong application that gives you the best chance of approval.

Understanding position types

Instawork offers two main categories of positions:

Entry-level positions: These include warehouse associate, event setup, general labor, and concession stand worker. These positions are usually approved automatically.

Skilled positions: These include bartender, line cook, prep cook, event server, and other specialized roles. These positions require approval before you can book shifts.

Minimum requirements for position approval

To be considered for a skilled position, you must complete all of these steps:

1. Add relevant work experience to your profile

  • Include all jobs related to the position you're applying for

  • List your responsibilities and skills for each role

  • Include the dates you worked at each job

2. Upload a professional profile photo

  • Clear image of your face

  • No filters, sunglasses, or hats

  • Professional appearance

3. Complete your personal information

  • Verify your phone number

  • Add your date of birth

  • Enter your current address

4. Complete the AI Screener Call

  • After submitting your application, you'll be prompted to complete an AI screener call.

  • This call verifies your experience and skills

  • Be prepared to answer questions about your work history

Common Status Indicators and Their Meaning

Below are typical status indicators you might see:

  • In Review: Your application is being assessed by the Instawork team or partner employers.

  • Approved: Your application has passed review. You can now proceed to the next steps (e.g., scheduling a coach call, if needed).

  • Denied: Your application didn't meet the requirements for the role. You may still apply for other positions.
